Members of the National Junior Honor Society at Accokeek Academy have raised $500 to benefit breast cancer research at the Howard University Cancer Center after a successful T-shirt fundraiser.
Nina Huff, co-sponsor of the NJHS at Accokeek Academy in Accokeek, said 17 student members sold 500 pink T-shirts over two weeks to support breast cancer awareness. Members distributed the T-shirts to students, teachers, custodians, cafeteria staff and volunteers Oct. 24.
“It was really a team effort,” Huff said. “Everyone had a job and everyone did their job, It’s a great group, and I’m really happy about the enthusiasm and their willingness to take on the challenges.”
The school’s NJHS will plan a fundraiser focusing on autism in the spring, Huff said.
